About Vejaya Govindram-Syers Vejaya Govindram-Syers started her legal career as a litigator in 1977 with a well-established firm soon after her admission as an Advocate Solicitor, dealing mainly in the areas of commercial, contract and family matters. She also managed and practiced in Brunei for the Associate firm after her admission to the Brunei Bar in 1980.
She moved to the U.K. after marriage and continued her legal practice at first, as a legal assistant with Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council and later as a child-care solicitor with Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council, after training at Manchester Metropolitan University under the U.K. Qualified Lawyers Transfer Regulations to gain admission to the Roll of Solicitors of England & Wales.
As an accredited mediator, she joined a national children’s organization (NCH Action for Children) which is a Charitable Children’s Trust, and took on cases referred through the English Courts and/or private clients going through divorce and/or separation, successfully helping parents reach amicable outcomes on their children’s issues and financial matters.
She also mediated in cases referred through the Prison Services and local authorities, mediating between female prisoners and their families and the local authorities, to safeguard the interests of children who had been taken into care by the Authorities while their mothers were serving prison sentences.
She is also a professionally trained Special Education Needs Mediator and had successfully mediated in a number of cases to help resolve issues between the local authorities, schools, and parents with children with special education needs attending mainstream education. She is trained in Workplace Mediation and in Air Travel Accessibility Conciliation.
In 2010, Vejaya returned to Singapore and joined as a partner in a well-established legal firm dealing mainly in matrimonial matters. She withdrew from the partnership in 2011 and recently joined Robert Wang & Woo LLP as a Senior Associate..
Vejaya is married with two children. She is a Singapore citizen and a permanent resident of the U.K. Her interests are traveling, reading, cooking exotic dishes, playing scrabble and swimming.
