About Yoga
Yoga has been in private practice since 1983. She has extensive litigation, mediation and arbitration experience in commercial and corporate matters, including commercial disputes, construction, international trade, franchising, sale and purchase of ships, registration of ships, acquisition of companies and joint-ventures.
She started her career as a litigation lawyer, whose practice was primarily centered on maritime and admiralty disputes. She has acted on a spectrum of shipping related claims including, charterparty and bills of lading disputes, casualty work involving collisions, general average and salvage, ship repairer’s claims, crew claims, ship chandler’s claims, disputes on ownership, marine insurance, reinsurance, maritime liens, enforcement of ship mortgages and ship arrest.
In recent years, her focus has moved to non-contentious work in the area of ship financing, sale and purchase of vessels, Registration of Vessels (both at the Singapore Registry of Ships and at foreign registries) and drafting of Charterparties. She has acted for the buyers, sellers and brokers in the sale and purchase of cruise ships, oil and gas tankers, bulk carriers, tugs and barges, drafting and negotiating sale and purchase agreements including Lease and Buy Back Lease Agreements and Bareboat Charterparties. Her practice also involves acting for Buyers in the Registration of Ships in Singapore and through foreign associates in Malaysia, Bahamas, Panama, Honduras, Fiji, Marshall Islands, Cyprus and Papua New Guinea.
She has also acted for Banks in the review and preparation of corporate authorities, instruments of mortgage and other security documents.
Finally Yoga has been appointed as the sole arbitrator in shipping disputes and has been counsel in numerous arbitrations both domestic and foreign. She has conducted arbitrations at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre and through foreign associates before the GAFTA Board, The Sugar Association of London, The London Maritime Association, The Regional Arbitration Centre in Kuala Lumpur, ICC International Court of Arbitration and The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
